The covers of this handcrafted journal are one-of-a-kind ecoprints I created on watercolour paper using petals from day lilies and dahliasI grew in my garden. Inside are 144 pages of 70# lined paper, which is marker and fountain-pen friendly.
Ecoprinting – also called botanical contact printing – is the process of capturing the natural dyes and pigments in leaves and flowers on paper using heat and pressure. Every print is unique and all the colours come from plants – I don’t use any synthetic dyes, inks or paints. I choose my very best ecoprints for book covers, then seal the covers with a special Japanese starch to make them more durable, before glueing them to sturdy book board. I bind each journal by hand with waxed linen thread. Coptic stitch creates a pleasing braid on the journal’s exposed spine and also allows the pages to lie flat when the book is open, making writing and sketching more comfortable.
If you wish, I will personalize the front cover free of charge by heat embossing a name or initials on the lower right-hand corner.
